Alice Tsuyuko Misumi, a life-long resident of Watsonville, passed away October 4, 2022 at the age of 96. She was born on September 5, 1926 to Nihei and Midori Matsui. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Jim Misumi and her kind son Rodney Misumi.
Early in life, Alice recalled working along side her parents in the agricultural fields and at their local fruit stand. In 1942, they were evacuated and interned to the relocation camp in Poston, Arizona for three years, After the war, they returned to Watsonville where she married Jim Misumi. Alice worked for the Watsonville Recreation Department helping organize and plan all of the city recreation activities for the community, both young and old, She then completed her 35 year career with the Pajaro Valley Unified School District working in various departments.
Alice and Jim loved their many gambling trips to Reno and always invited family and friends to join them. She was a member of the Watsonville Buddhist Temple and was a longtime SF Giants fan.
Alice was preceded in death by her wonderful siblings Peggy (John) Kurimoto, Tommy (Vi) Matsui, Evelyn (Carmel) Kamigawachi, and Sully (Tami) Matsui.
A special thank you to Carolyn Misumi who checked in with Alice every day and helped her so much.
Alice was such a generous and giving person, often helping those in need “behind the scenes”. Please remember her sweet smile, quiet laugh, and most loving heart.
As per Alice’s request, no gathering will be held. If desired, donations may be made in Alice’s memory to the Watsonville Buddhist Temple.
