May 9, 1930 - April 19, 2015
Longtime Aptos resident, Ed Ingram, passed away quietly at his Seacliff home Sunday April 19, 2015. He was 84 years old.
Ed was born in San Jose, California to Geraldine and Joseph Ingram. Ed was an exceptional student and multi-sport athlete throughout his school years. Some of his athletic records from Lincoln High, class of 1948, are rumored to still hold today. He earned a full ride College scholarship in two sports.
He moved his family to Aptos in the early 1960's where he started his now infamous sheetrock hauling and stocking business earning him the nick name Iron Ed for his ability to carry 12' bundles of sheetrock by himself up stairways and across planks for 12 hours a day.
In the early 1970's Ed hung up the keys to the "Green Dolly" haul truck to open up his first of a few tries at a sheetrock supply house.
In the late 1980's Ed once again needed to reinvent his life and livelihood. Ed made his lifelong love of collecting into his last and final business venture, recycling. The local recycling giant took note of this and tried everything they could to stop him. Never to back down from a good fight against big business Ed, the ultra-liberal, took the giant to court and won. He ran his route for the next 25 years right up to 6 months before he passed.
Ed was a great friend to many and he cherished those friendships. Over recent years and the availability of social media he was able to track the lives of his very large distant family. He kept a chart of all his Children, Grand and Great Grandchildren.
Ed is preceded in death by his brother Joe and daughters Laney and Robin. He is survived by his brothers Forrest and Bill, his children and step children (by order of appearance in his life) Dana, Sue, Doug, Kim, Lori, Phil, Eric, Gary and Anne as well as 21 Grandchildren and 23 Great Grandchildren.
His family would like to invite his friends to an Open House time of sharing and remembrance Friday May 8, 3-5 PM on the patio of Severino's restaurant in Aptos.
