Edwin L. Ingersoll

January 22, 1932 — December 22, 2024

Watsonville

On December 22, 2024 Edwin L. Ingersoll, 91, was promoted to his heavenly home after a long and courageous struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. Edwin was born in Lindsay, Ca. on January 22, 1934 to Robert and Lois Ingersoll. Edwin, “Ed”, taught Junior High Math at Rolling Hills School (PVUSD) for 32 years without missing a day or needing a substitute. Ed enjoyed Junior High kids and felt very strongly that they needed to be carefully transitioned into adolescence. After retiring, he taught a year at Monte Vista Christian School followed by several years of tutoring math students from his home which he enjoyed greatly.

Ed leaves his wife, Oleta, of 71 years. Ed and Oleta, high school "sweethearts", both graduated from Watsonville High Class of 1951. They were married in August 1953 and both received their BA degrees and teaching credentials from San Jose State in 1955.

In 1956 after teaching for one year, Ed returned to school. He attended Western Baptist Theological Seminary in Portland, OR, where he earned a Master’s Degree in Christian Education. In 1959, he was called to First Baptist Church of Los Altos to serve as Minister of Christian Education. In 1960, their son, Brent, was born. In 1962, Ed decided to return to public education. Thus, his long teaching career started in the old Freedom School which was on the airport property. Ed was a devoted father and husband. He always had a thankful word to say about his life, was a strong Christian, and always tried to live what he was eager to say he believed.

Ed loved clocks of any size or type and developed the ability to diagnose and fix them. He enjoyed “fixing” most anything that needed work, math related activities, and helping students prepare for the annual science fairs. Ed also greatly enjoyed participating in men’s singing groups. He sang with the Harbor Masters, a men’s group from Twin Lakes Church, for more than ten years. The group not only sang at Twin Lakes but also traveled to other churches to present Gospel concerts.

Edwin is survived by his wife, Oleta; son, Brent (Sandra); grandchildren, Katelyn Gonzalez (Manuel) and Hunter Ingersoll; great grandchildren, Mackenzie Joy Gonzalez and Ezekiel Gonzalez; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers Robert E., Richard D., Gordon R., David L. Ingersoll, and sister, Janice R. Easterly.

A celebration of life service will be held at Twin Lakes Church at a later date.
