Elvira Flores

On August 8, 2014 Elvira Flores peacefully passed away surrounded by her children and grandchildren at the age of 90. She was reunited with her husband, Lou S Flores, in heaven. She remains in our hearts and will be deeply missed.

Vera was born in Fresno and moved to Watsonville when she was 11 years old in 1935. She attended local schools. She lived her life in Pajaro and was well known throughout her neighborhood.

She began her working at San Francisco's Mark Hopkins Hotel as an elevator girl and loved telling her family stories about the famous people she met there. Elvira had many skills working as a salesclerk, chef, teacher's aide, and packing shed and cannery worker. She was also a small business owner and ran her own restaurant and boarding house. She was an excellent cook and created unique dishes. She was employed with Goodwill Industries and the Pajaro Valley School District.

Elvira was an avid bingo player and was a "regular" at the Watsonville Senior Center and Pajaro Senior Center games every Tuesday and Friday. Elvira attended mass regularly at the Assumption Church.

The remainder of her time was spent with family and pursuing hobbies. She loved to crochet, cook, take daily walks, and visit family and friends. She traveled with the Watsonville City Band to Seattle and Mexico as a chaperone. She enjoyed traveling with her family.

Her door was always open to family and friends and she was always willing to help and support others throughout her entire life. There is nothing like a mother's love and she was always there for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Throughout her illness, she was valiant and impressed everyone around her with her great spirit and inspiration. She was caring and beautiful and kind to all she came in contact with throughout her life. Even though her body wore out, her love and spirit will always be with us.

Elvira, known by her friends as Vera was so full of life and love for her friends and family. She enjoyed playing bingo, spending time with family and friends and being generous to others. She was valued and loved by her four children: Shirley Anne, Karl, Alexander, and Linda; her eight grandchildren Camilla, Matthew, Kristina, Kevin, Lyndsay, Tiffany, Samantha, and Chelsea; and her seven great grandchildren Riley, Lucas, Chloe, Isabella, Olivia, Isaac and Deklan.

A Memorial Mass will be held in her honor at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 100 Salinas Road, Pajaro., at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 15, 2014.
