Ezequiel Mota Freitas, of Watsonville, CA passed from this life on May 25, 2022, after several years of living with Parkinson’s disease. He was 81. Born April 3, 1941, in Funchal, Madeira, he was the second child of Joao Freitas and Soledade da Mota Freitas.

Ezequiel is survived by his loving wife, Lilia Freitas, sister Zelia Jardim, brother Dino Freitas, daughters Sally Tresser and Tanya Zamorano and grandchildren Kayla and Nicholas Tresser and Zidane and Enzo Zamorano. As well as his sister-in-law, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceded by his parents Joao Freitas, Soledade da Mota Freitas, and brother Rodolfo Freitas.

Ezequiel immigrated from Madeira Island in 1967 and made Watsonville his home for over 50 years. He served in the Portuguese Army for 2 years, was a hard-worker and provider for his family, working many different jobs until he became a License Examiner for the DMV. He retired after 15 years.

He loved to travel with his wife, Lilia, and they were able to visit and enjoy many countries, Italy, Portugal, Switzerland, Austria, Canary Islands, Brazil, Ecuador, Chile, Argentina, Hong Kong, and the Caribbean Islands.

Ezequiel will be remembered for being a dedicated and loving family man, a man of God active in the Seventh Day Adventist Church, and a great friend to many. He was a fan of sports, especially soccer. He was an amazing grandfather and truly enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow-up and play soccer as well. He loved to cook and especially liked family barbeques. He owned a boat for many years and was entertained by fishing and taking his family camping and waterskiing. He was generous with his time and the patriarch of the family.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday June 15, 2022, at Ave Maria Memorial Chapel in Watsonville from 5:00 to 9:00PM and Burial will be on Thursday June 16, 2022, at 10:00 AM at Valley Public Cemetery.
