Henry Garcia, a lifelong resident of the Pájaro Valley, passed away Friday, January 5th, at the age of 83. He was surrounded by his many relatives and loved ones. He is survived by his children Martín, Xochitl, Gina, and his wife Maria Garcia. Henry was born in Pájaro, the son of Jacinto and Consuelo Garcia, Mexican immigrants from the state of Jalisco, and brother to his sisters Irma, Cristina, Teresa, and Mercedes (Mercy). He attended Pájaro Elementary School, Watsonville High School, and Cabrillo College and was a veteran of the United States Army. Henry worked in the agricultural fields from childhood through adolescence, worked in local grocery stores as a young adult, and eventually owned a produce distributing company. Henry’s last job was with the City of Watsonville Wastewater Department from which he retired. He was an active member at various points in his life with San Pablo de Colores, the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion. Henry was an avid football and boxing fan and wholeheartedly loved the San Francisco 49ers. He was extremely proud of his Mexican roots and loved the subject of history. Henry will be greatly missed by his children, grandchildren, and extended family.

Funeral Services for Henry Garcia will be held Friday, January 12th from 5-8 at Ave Maria Memorial Chapel and a special Church mass will be held Saturday, January 13th at 1 pm at Assumption Church in Pájaro.
