Joaquin Salcedo Dominguez, age 85 entered into rest in San Diego, CA on August 18, 2013
Joaquin was born in Quirino Municipality of Degollado, Jalisco, Mexico August 22, 1927 to Luis and Maria Dominguez the eldest of seven siblings. He came to the US through the Brazero Program which brought millions of Mexican Workers during the 1950's. He came to Watsonville in 1956, enabling him to become a legal citizen and helped get family to Watsonville which spurred the family to keep coming to the US and becoming citizens. On January 25, 1976 he married Antonia Zarate at Reno, NV. He worked for the Sakata Ranch, as a tractor driver. His love of farming kept him active in working his land in Mexico. He also enjoyed maintaining a large garden in Watsonville.
He was a very amicable and loving person who enjoyed laughter, friends and family and living life thoroughly. His friends and family were his fortune; he was a man who knew his community and engaged with everyone he encountered. Among family and friends he shared family history through storytelling. He was a man of conviction; he worked for his dreams, and for his next generation and their well-being. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his loving wife Antonia, children, Horacio A. Dominguez, Cesar J. Dominguez and his children from his previous marriages; Maria de Jesus, Rita Ramirez, Teresa Lopez, Jovita Dominguez. He was preceded in death by sons Jose "Pepe" Dominguez and Efrain E. Dominguez. Also surviving are 27 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, and his siblings: Enrique Dominguez, Senorina Barajas, Genoveva Macias, Antonio Dominguez, Alicia Gomez, and Jaime Dominguez.
Viewing will be Monday, Aug. 26, 2013 from 2 to 5 pm at Ave Maria Memorial Chapel, 609 Main St., Watsonville. Vigil services will be Monday evening at 7:00 PM at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 721 Main St., Watsonville with the Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday morning at 10:00 AM at church with interment to follow at Valley Public Cemetery.
