Monroe Nelson Ramer passed away peacefully on December 21, 2021. He was 80. Monroe was born in McKean County, Pennsylvania on December 13, 1941 to Nelson and Irona (Grover) Ramer, the 3rd child of 7. He spent his childhood moving multiple times between Pennsylvania, California, and several other states. In 1960 he completed Upholstery trade schooling in Pennsylvania and went on to become a Master Craftsman, eventually moving his business to California in 1965, and settling in Corralitos in 1969. He was very precise with his workmanship and would make sure every piece was perfect before he would deliver it. He genuinely appreciated his customers and considered many of them friends as well.
Monroe promised himself that while his sons were growing up, they wouldn’t have to move around like he did. He kept that promise. He loved to take walks around the block in Corralitos. He retired to Watsonville in 1995. During retirement, he continued enjoying long walks all around Watsonville with his wife, Maggie. He also had a goal to live to be 80, which he accomplished.
Monroe leaves behind 3 sons, Michael (Michelle) Ramer, Kelvin (Janette) Ramer and Clinton (Portia) Ramer. He also leaves behind 6 grandchildren, Robert Ramer, Ashlee (Nick) Cruz, Emily (Sonja) Ramer-Yanez, Rosalee (Jackson) Ramer, Ben Ramer, and Taylor Ramer and 4 great-grandchildren, Carter Cruz, Nathaniel Nava, Samuel Ramer, Jack Ramer and one on the way. He leaves behind his sisters Ardyce Craun, Norma Goates, Mae (Dave) Bennett and Sharon Coronado and his brother Clyde (Nancy) Ramer and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Arlene, and his wife of 60 years, Margaret “Maggie” Ramer, who died earlier this year on March 5, 2021 with Monroe by her side.
Graveside services will be at held at Pioneer Cemetery in Watsonville on Thursday, January 20, 2022, at 11:00 AM.
