Oscar Hernandez peacefully passed away on July 5,2024, surrounded by family. He was 70.
Oscar was born on April 6, 1954, in Mercedes, Texas, but grew up in the Watsonville/Santa Cruz area and attended Watsonville High School, where he played sports and graduated in 1972.
Due to a car accident in 1977, Oscar was paralyzed for the last 47 years. Even with challenges he always maintained a positive attitude towards life. He was a fighter and lived a very full life. He loved music, reading, the beach, the mountains, spending time with family and friends, the sun shining on his face, and Sushi.
Oscar was preceded in death by his parents, Sebastian and Juana Hernandez, his brothers, Eddy, Blasito, and Francisco, and his beloved service dog, Murdoch.
He is survived by his partner of 29 years, Vickie Page; brothers Fidel Hernandez, Paul (Teresa) Hernandez and David Hernandez; sisters, Geneva Blake, Connie Moran, Maria (Jerry) Gass, Stella (Salvador) Rubalcava, Annabel Hernandez, Linda (Tony) Lara, and Corina (Letty Cedillos) Hernandez. Oscar is also survived by Matthew and Christopher Page, whom he considered his stepsons, Charlie Cardinal, his dedicated caretaker, and Karen Politano, a longtime close friend.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Ave Maria Memorial Chapel where no services are to be held.
