Rafael De La Torre

Rafael De La Torre was a humble, hard-working, simple man. He had a genuine love for his family and appreciation for his community.

Rafael was born on 6/15/1949 in El Rancho del Tecolote Jalisco, Mexico. Juan and Maria del Refugio, his parents, raised Rafael along with 8 siblings: Jose, Miguel, Manuel, Maria, Soledad, Antonio, Jesus and Nicolas. His parents instilled great values about humility, being of service, the importance of family and set great standards to begin his own family.

Rafael migrated to California during several work seasons in the 1970s and found his niche in agriculture labor. He Married in 1977 in San Juan De Los Lagos Jalisco, Mexico and migrated to California as a newlywed. He decided to settle with the love of his life, Maricela De La Torre in 1978 in Watsonville, California . They remained married for 47 years and had 6 children; Esmeralda, Juan, Rogelio, Rafael Jr., Mariela, and José Nícolas. He had an outstanding work ethic and valued family time. His work trajectory was in agriculture and retired from Monterey Bay Nursery in his mid 60s. He had a genuine love and connection to the labor he did and enjoyed gardening, caring for his chickens and roosters during his retirement. His love language was being generous and showing acts of kindness to his community . He enjoyed listening to Mexican Rancheras and always loved to sing and dance in family gatherings. Rafael was highly regarded in his community and many people esteemed him for his authenticity and way of enjoying life. His grandchildren were his adoration. He was very proud of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren who despite his humble beginnings, left a legacy of perseverance and impeccable work ethic. Rafael motivated them to pursue higher education, reminding them of the opportunities at their reach. His grandchildren include ; Juan, Daisy, Janessa, Bella, Vin, Roger, Leo, Andres, Sofia and Benjamin in order of age respectively. As the patriarch of his family, he leaves behind immensurable memories and a great void.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Ave Maria Memorial Chapel. Mass will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Valley Catholic Church with the burial to follow at Valley Public Cemetery.
