Raul Garcia Ramirez died at Watsonville Community Hospital surrounded by his loved ones, on Tuesday, May 28, 2013. He was 63.
Raul was born in San Pedro Tesistan, Jalisco, Mexico, on September 13, 1949 to Genaro Garcia Gonzales and Maria Paz Garcia Ramirez. He attended elementary school in Mexico.
In October of 1969, Raul imigrated to the United States with his parents and six siblings. He was employed with Borina Orchards for over 18 years.
Raul was affectionately known to family and friends as La Perica. He was an avid soccer player and played with Jalisco Soccer Club mostly consisting of teammates from his hometown during the 70s and 80s in the Watsonville Soccer League and he was also a die hard fan of The Chivas of Guadlajara Soccer Club. Twice a week he would anxiously hurry to the old Flor Del Valle Market to purchase his copy of the Esto Soccer Magazine to keep informed on the current events of his beloved Chivas. He could recite the roster of every soccer club in the Mexican Soccer League.
He was a prankster, imitator and joke teller and would often be found surrounded by family and friends at family gatherings telling one of his many jokes or imitating one of his many friends.
Raul is survived by his wife of 43 years, Teresa Garcia Martinez; his son Hector Garcia; his daughter Sandra Garcia; his grandchildren Brenda, Angel, Lily, and Jessica; his siblings Onesimo ( Consuelo) Garcia, Hector (Lilia) Garcia, Evangelina (Fidencio) Hernandez, Maricela Garcia, Jose Garcia, and Esperanza (Manuel) Fuentes, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Genaro Garcia , mother Maria Paz Garcia and brother Heriberto Garcia.
Viewing will be held from 5-9 p.m. on Monday June 3, 2013 at Ave Maria Memorial Chapel, 609 Main St., Watsonville, with a recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m. Mass will be held at Assumption Church on Tuesday at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at Valley Public Cemetery.
