Robert Henry Bivins

Robert H. Bivins passed away peacefully at home on December 29, 2022. He was 80.   

Robert was born on December 1, 1942, in Watsonville, California to his parents Henry Bivins and Naomi Pomeroy Bivins.   

Robert was a hardworking family man that loved life. He enjoyed playing sports. He played baseball from the age of 8 to 22. He played football from the age of 12 to 22. He joined the WUSD choir because he wanted to go with them to the 1960 winter Olympics. He played golf for 54 years. He was a teacher and coach for the Pajaro Valley Unified School District from 1967 - 2001. He coached football, baseball and golf. He taught physical education, science, country western line dancing and swimming.   

Robert belonged to the organization Sons In Retirement. He played on the Watsonville Unified High School Twilight League golf team.   

Robert’s hobbies included playing golf, tennis, carpentry, home construction, water skiing, watching his grandchildren play sports and took up gardening in retirement.   

Robert was the head frosh football coach, assistant varsity coach and head baseball coach. 

Robert attended Cabrillo College from 1960 – 1962. He attended and graduated San Francisco State University from 1962 – 1966. He has his lifetime drivers training credential.   

Robert is survived by his wife, Gaye M Bivins, his children, Bret H. Bivins and Brooke H, Bivins – Garnett, his grandchildren, Brandon Bivins, Kendall Bivins, Aubrey Nelson and Thayne Garnett. He is preceded in death by his siblings Betty Jercich, Bonnie Herrel, Ed Bivins and Richard Bivins.   

A visitation will be held at 11:00 AM to 11:45 AM and Service at 12:00 PM on Friday, January 6, 2023, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located at 255 Holm Rd. in Watsonville. Burial will follow after at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park located at 127 Hecker Pass Rd in Watsonville.   

Donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Hospice of Santa Cruz.
