Sofia Vazquez Rojas

September 30, 1926 — December 8, 2022

Watsonville

Sofia Vazquez Rojas was born September 30th, 1926 in Presidio, Texas. She was 9 of 12 children born to Juan and Andrea Ramirez Vazquez. She went home to our Lord on December 8th, 2022 at the age of 96.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Papa Juan and Grandma Andrea. Her beloved siblings who paved the road to heaven were, Gabriel, Sister Bernadette Celia, Alfredo, Monica, Catalina, PetroNila, and Juan. Also preceding her in death was Rudy A. Rojas Sr., and Bob Harris (Susan’s Husband). Sofia also never got to meet great-grand kids, infants; Bethany, Marie, Sofia, and Julian.

Living in California since the age of 12, Sofia went to school in East Los Angeles. She married her high school sweetheart, Rudy A. Rojas Sr. During WWII, Sofia was a Rosie the Riveter.

In the 1980s, Sofia moved up North, Watsonville, to live near daughter Susan and her first Grandchildren. After spending time near daughter Nila (S.CA), Sofia made a second move back up North. There she dedicated many years to the community of Watsonville in her position of Social Services.

While living with Susan and husband (Bob Harris), Sofia kept busy by crocheting blankets, scarves, and hats for clients of Jacob’s Heart, Relay for Life, as well as Dialysis Patients and Veterans Hospital.

During her retirement, Sofia filled her day with EWTN (TV) daily Masses. She was a true prayer warrior, often spending most of her day praying for those in need.

Again, Sofia relocated to Southern California, where her third daughter Renee gave up life in Colorado to be Sofia’s caregiver. At this time Sofia took up painting (age 92), in spite of breaking her neck and having advanced macular degeneration.

Sofia is survived by siblings Andrea (Arnulfo), Fr. Moises, and Maria (Philemen). Children; Rudy Jr. (Maureen), John Raymond (Sandy), Susan, Nila (Javier), and Rene. She leaves behind 13 Grandchildren, 11 Great Grandchildren, and Rojas family expect 3 more angels on their way for 2023.

In lien of flowers, plants or donations may be sent to Relay for Life or Jacob’s Heart. God Bless 2023.
